Building Requirements

This note is intended to provide information regarding the permitting process for new construction, renovations, additions, and demolitions.

 

Building Codes

All Federal, State, Denton County, and City requirements are applicable to projects constructed within the City’s jurisdiction whether listed herein or not. The City has adopted the following codes and/or standards regulating building construction.

Building Permits

  • Before a building permit will be issued, all plans and documents related to the permit application must be approved by the Building Official, the Fire Marshal, and Development Services.
  • All contractors and tradesmen working within the City must be registered with the City prior to beginning any construction.
  • Any construction requiring a building permit will also require regular inspections by the City’s Building Official. Commercial projects will also require inspections by the City’s Fire Marshal.

Construction Site

  • A temporary property address must be posted at the front of the lot and readable from the street. Permanent street numbers must be displayed before final inspection.
  • A portable sanitary restroom for workers shall be on the site until the final inspections are approved.
  • A trash receptacle to prevent construction trash from blowing or scattering shall be maintained until final inspections are approved.
  • No construction materials, debris, or sanitary restroom facility shall be placed or stored in the public right-of-way or drainage areas at any time.
